France

At a rest stop soon after we entered France we found this display of Peugeot cars.
The yellow one is an 806 Surf.
It was especially customized to accommodate surfboards and other beach accoutrements.
Did you know that Peugeot also makes surfboards.
I did not see any information on the car in the foreground but it looks like fun too.

Castles along the road on our way to Paris.

This antique car surprised us as it passed.

Our first view of the Eiffel tower.  There will be many more.

Arc de Triomphe Paris has way too many lanes of traffic around it.
Our guide told us that cars entering the circle have the right of way over ones already there.
It seems to me that would lead to problems but it was working while we were there.

This tyrannosaurus was next to the gangway to the boat we were about to take on the Seine.
He seems to be ready to nip the top of the Eiffel tower.

Bridges over the river were adorned with locks wherever they could be latched.
The tale is that you and your true love place a lock and throw the key into the river and you will never be separated.

The Louvre was closed  when we were there so this was as close as we got to it's great works of art.
It was probably just as well because there was way too much to see in the city in the short time we had there.

The Pont Alexandre III arch bridge as we departed and again at sunset.

An amphibious car.

The Institut de France a grouping of five academies, the most famous of which is the Academie francaise.

And the Pont Alexandre III arch bridge again with the Grand Palais behind it.

The French gave the Statue of Liberty to the US and have a smaller replica on an island on the river.

As we drew closer we could see more details including the names of French scientists and mathematicians who were well known at the time.
More than half of them were familiar to me.

In the evening there is a light show on the tower.

The next morning we went to see the view from the top.

We knew it was big but you have to be there to appreciate it.

On rhe way up.

Views from the second level.

And higher.
Not everyone chose to go to the top

There must have been a lot of obelisks in Egypt.
They can be seen here and a number other places around the world.

Our group and views of the Dome Church at Les Invalides without us cluttering the foreground.

Several bridal parties in a park nearby.

Marie Antoinette and Louie XVI's  nice little place, Versailles.

Paintings on every ceiling and wall.

This painting on the ceiling is being restored.
Each of the pieces of paper is protecting a place that needs special attention.

A grand hall across the width of the palace.

Bed chambers of the king and queen.

Over the doorway to the music room and more of the decorations typical of every room.

Marie Antoinette and her children.
The empty crib is because she had lost a child not long before this portrait was made.

Back door to the palace.

And their quiet little garden.

I put this in for my firefighter friends.

We saw electric cars and charging stations.

We took in a performance at the Red Mill better known as the Moulin Rouge, .

Memorable performances by dancers, musical performers, dancers, jugglers, dancers, acrobats, and dancers.

Waiting for the Eurostar back to Great Britain.
