Outdoor classroom visits

We were invited to accompany a group of elementary teachers from the Elliott County schools to learn about outdoor classrooms in two other KY districts.  Two students at Rodgers Elementary took us on a tour of their outdoor classroom.   It included a butterfly and hummingbird garden, a animal track area, and a trail leading through the woods and past their amphitheater.  Signs along the way identify trees, study areas and poison ivy.

At the Red River school we saw a park like area with room for several classes to work at the same time.  Many workstations are planned including a sundial, pond area, herb garden, and wooded trail.
