June 29

We have a roof, thanks to the help of many hands.  First Soahn and Wendy stopped by on June 19 on their way back from a training session Wendy was attending in Atlanta.  Alan had started to put the sheathing on the front edge of the roof but it was not easy since he was carrying the plywood across the roof and  nailing it in place.  The roof rafters were higher and more precarious than he was comfortable with.  Soahn pitched in and we soon had the roof decked over.  The next weekend Roger and Judy Mead, Wendy's folks, showed up.  We were the last stop on a combined work and pleasure trip through several southern states.  I'm not sure how they would classify our stop but we appreciate the work that they did while they were here.  They made short work of the insulation we put over the plywood sheathing and Roger helped with the fascia boards on the high gable end of the house.  That is another job that would have been nearly impossible without help.  We also got the first couple of skylights in while they were here.  We also started to put the shingles on the roof.  The hot weather and our need for some R&R convinced us to hire the rest of the roofing done.  We have done that job before in NY, 100 degree 90% humidity, and didn't need to prove ourselves in KY.  We felt sorry for, and were very thankful for, the 2 guys that did the job in 2 days.  We estimated that it would have taken us 10. The day after the shingles were on we left town for a visit with Kai and his folks.
