Making
lamps in 4H
For the past several
years the
6th grade students have learned about electricity in 4H.
As part of that study they make lamps that they can use at home.
They learn
how to assemble a lamp safely.
Doing that they learn
how to replace a cord on one they may have at home.
They must use an
underwriters knot as a strain relief.
The neutral and hot
wires must go to the proper terminals.
And all the connections
must be secure.
You can see by their expressions that they are concentrating on doing
the job correctly.
Once they are decorated
and assembled we check the connections and then finally they see if
they will really work.
Our thanks to Grayson
Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation for their donation of the
compact fluorescent bulbs for the lamps.
