One of the projects we have
become
involved with is the preservation
of Laurel Gorge. These pictures show just a glimpse of the
beauty
that dwells in the gorge. Access is very limited with cliffs
towering
about 200 feet above the river. Only one minor road crosses
this
16 mile stretch of pristine wilderness. Because of its
protected
nature it harbors rare and endangered flora and fauna. We are
part
of a committee which is trying to make the gorge available to the
public
while preserving it. Experts from Federal and KY State
agencies
are
working with us toward this goal. We hope to be able to
create a
trail through it, part of which will be handicapped accessible.
