Let me take you through the stages of
this project...
Step 1: Drawings and design
of the pirate sculpture.
(Complete)
Step 2: Create a scaled
down 3D Mock clay sculpture of the pirate.
This will require one case of oil based Roma
clay at a cost of $6.75.
(Complete)
Step 3: Assemble the basic
framework structure of the life size clay
sculpture. This will include bending and shaping
plumbing pipe together and gluing pieces of blue
foam around the pipe to get a slightly smaller
structure of the pirate. Cost of materials
approximately $100.00.
(In
Progress)
Step 4: Next the clay will
be spread over the foam/pipe structure about ½
inches thick. This will require 10 cases of oil
based Roma clay, $67.50.
Step 5: Finish molding,
shaping and detailing the pirate sculpture.
Step 6: Take the finished
product to Bright Foundry in Louisville for the
bronze process, from this point on they will
work on the sculpture.
Step 7: The rubber molding
is the first step, the foundry charges
approximately $6,000 for labor and materials.
Step 8: Pay for the
bronze. The sculpture will weigh around 400 lbs.
x $30 a lb of bronze which will cost
approximately $12,000.
Step 9: Next the sculpture
will be cast and assembled. The foundry
charges approximately $12,000 for this process.
Step 10: Have the bronze
statue installed. This will be the final step
costing around $1,000.
Total expenses = From $35,000 to $40,000.
