As
we approached Isabela by boat we were greeted by the sight of a sea
lion and iguanas sunning themselves on the steep rock shore.
Nasca Boobies hung out there as well. And on an area that had some brushy
cover we could see Frigate Birds
displaying their red neck pouches.
Our Hotel for our stay here was The
Wooden House.
This Yellow Warbler was on a palm
right outside our room. This Black Necked Stilt and Common
Moorehen were in a nearby lagoon. We saw about a dozen flamingos during
our walk.
They have an interesting way of
feeding. They stir up the mud with their feet
and filter out algae and brine shrimp by rapidly opening and closing
their beaks.
We visited a research facility where
giant tortoises are hatched and
raised to a large enough size that they aren't prey to predators.
Silverpaw accompanied us on our trip
as part of our grandson's 3rd
grade project. Here he is pointing out one young
tortoises. You may have noticed him on the park
sign too.
The vermilion flycatcher is tiny but
spectacular.
Back at the shore some lobstermen
were counting their catch before
selling it. The season had just opened so
lobsters were readily available. We enjoyed them several times during
our visit.
