We have now been on the the Pan American Highway in Alaska and Tierra del Fuego, both ends and here is the middle.

On the way from Quito to Otavalo.

The white area in the lower left of the picture is acres of greenhouses.
Just a few of the ones that make Ecuador the worlds largest producer of cut roses.

These holes are mines where the local farmers dig limestone to make into cement.

We stopped at the equator at noon on the autumnal equinox.

The structure is a vertical pipe with a mirror in its base so you can look directly up it to prove the sun is directly overhead.
Nancy is in the northern hemisphere and Alan is in the southern.

It was cloudy but there was no doubt about the alignment.
