Morocco
Our
visit to Morocco began at the Kasbah in Agadir.
The fortification on the
hill
overlooking the city.
The road winding up the mountain
to the
fort.
There we found vendors
of course.
Not many and much less
pushy than we
have met on other trips.
Imagine trying to breach
these walls
after making your way up the mountain.
Once inside we weren't
sure what was
being defended back when this was built.
Certainly there wasn't
much there now.
From the Kasbah we could
see our ship
in the harbor.
And looking in another
direction was
the beach
Here is a wider view.
The first of two markets
we visited.
Many shops with spices,
fruits, nuts,
cookies, shoes, clothing, and household goods.
Then on to a show staged
for
tourists.
Musicians and singers
met us at the
gate.
As did these mounted
guards.
We were treated to a
show of
horsemanship.
Acrobats
A snake charmer.
At one point he was
holding several
snakes up high and one struck his kippah (skull cap) taking it off his
head.
The belly dancer put on
a show.
This cute little girl
met us outside
the second market.
This wasn't staged for
the tourists.
There were lots of
locals buying
fruits, vegetables, spices, and flowers.
Everything was as good
or better than
anything in our markets.
And a stop at a shop
where we were
shown the traditional way to make oil from argan nuts.
And of course they had
many special
types on sale.
Dollars or euros same
price.
They probably raise the
price in
dollars when there are a bus load of european tourists visiting to make
it seem like a bargain for them.
Rick and Dick explored
on their
own.
Here are a few pictures
from their
adventures.
Thanks Rick.
